We were delighted to be asked by Stephanie Ehrlich(Special Events and Project Producer) to help create the floral centerpieces for the Gala at Wave Hill on Wednesday 25th May
This year’s Gala was celebrating the Visual Arts. Wave Hill has a wonderful reputation as a place for artists to develop new work and to exhibit. The artists featured in the Glyndor Gallery on Wednesday were, Fred Tomaselli, Terry Winters and Philip Taaffe. All three of these artists were inspired by the beautiful gardens of Wave Hill.
Our choice for flowers for the Gala table arrangements were inspired by artist Philip Taaffe and his painting -
Composition with Ornamental Fragments IV 2011
We had a floral class on Tuesday with some of the wonderful ladies on the WH committee, who gave up their time and came to make the flower arrangements. Some of the ladies had not made arrangements before, but soon got in to the swing of it.
Our flowers (colors inspired by artist Philip Taaffe) were rich tones, included Big Ben peonies, Red Charm peonies, local grown lilac, striped yellow and orange ranunculus, old gold Carparchio roses, purple anemones, scented geranium leaves and bright chartreuse viburnham.
Once the ladies had there buckets of flowers they began creating….
Truly a great morning had by all.
Then in the evening we were invited to the gala and we had a fabulous evening exploring the gardens.
Meeting up with good friends … Francis Palmer and Stephen Orr
Thanks Wave Hill … Livia & I hope to be back to see you soon!
